ILR Calculator UK is an independent information and planning service. We turn common settlement questions into clear checklists, but we do not decide applications or provide legal advice.
What we are — and are not
We build plain-English calculators and guides for people planning indefinite leave to remain. The aim is practical clarity: identify the route being relied on, keep a complete absence record, understand the evidence questions and verify live requirements before acting. The site is not part of the Home Office or GOV.UK, and it is not endorsed by either.
We are not a law firm, immigration adviser or regulated representative. Nothing on this site creates a client relationship, assesses an individual case or replaces advice from a person authorised to give immigration advice. Where a decision turns on a gap in leave, a long absence, a refusal, criminality, family circumstances or an approaching deadline, users should seek appropriately regulated, tailored advice.
How we make the information useful
Route-aware
We avoid presenting “five years” as a universal rule. Work, family, BN(O) and Long Residence routes have different conditions and sometimes different historic provisions.
Evidence-led
Planning prompts ask for grants, travel and route documents rather than relying on recollection or a single visa label.
Clear about uncertainty
We distinguish confirmed rules, future effective changes, proposals and facts that have not yet been published.
Our tools produce planning estimates. They cannot see every fact behind an answer, interpret discretion, or determine whether documents will be accepted. The calculation should lead to a careful source check, not replace one.
Editorial independence and updates
We link to primary GOV.UK material wherever possible and record a review date on time-sensitive pages. Policy news is not presented as binding law unless official rule text and effective-date information support that position. We review material after significant official updates and make corrections when we identify a meaningful inaccuracy; see our methodology, sources and corrections process.
